Society of Technical Analysts (STA)

Founded in 1968, the Society of Technical Analysts (STA) is the oldest technical analysis societies in the world, with 1500+ current active members and many thousands of alumni.

A non-profit organisation, focused on the London trading community, STA teaches at universities such as Kings College and Queen Mary. They train a large number of London’s banks, trading houses and fund managers and count companies such as Goldman Sachs, J.P Morgan, Deutsche Bank, Barclays Capital, Merrill Lynch, Nomura, Morgan Stanley and many more amongst their alumni.

The Society of Technical Analysts is CISI and IFTA accredited.

What is technical analysis?

Technical analysis is an analysis methodology for forecasting the direction of prices through the study of past market data, primarily price and volume.

Who will the course be taught by?

Lectures will be taken primarily by Clive Lambert and Richard Adcock

Clive Lambert

Clive Lambert’s company FuturesTechs is one of the UK’s leading independent technical analysis providers. The company is a seven-times winner at the Technical Analyst Magazine Awards, most recently winning the “Best Independent Fixed Income Research” category at the 2018 awards.

Clive, who is the founder and director of FuturesTechs, is also Vice-Chariman of the STA, and has been both a regular conference speaker and lecturer on STA courses for many years. He is able to offer STA Diploma Course students not only in-depth knowledge of a wide range of technical analysis tools but also the benefit of his many years’ experience as broker and trader before setting up his own company.

He has been writing technical analysis reports for his clients for over 20 years, and his book “Candlestick Charts: An Introduction to using Candlestick Charts” is on the STA reading list.

Richard Adcock

Richard Adcock MSTA specialises in Candlestick analysis, combining it with momentum and trending techniques to establish both long and short term strategies.

Richard started his career with Investment Research of Cambridge Ltd where he published a number of reports covering all asset classes, as well as managing client funds. He then joined Credit Lyonnais, followed by HSBC and UBS, where he managed both the rates and FX technical teams. In early 2015, he joined the hedge fund Brevan Howard, after which Adcock Analysis Ltd was established.

During his career, Richard has been voted Top Fixed Income Technical Strategist in the Technical Analyst magazine poll for 2009, 2011 & 2013. Since starting Adcock Analysis Ltd, the company has been voted top Independent Technical Research House for FX in 2017 and 2018.

He sits on the executive committee of the Society of Technical Analysts, where he is responsible for publication of the STA journal and has lectured for them on numerous occasions, including their annual diploma course on Candlestick Analysis.

What topics will be covered?

Over 5-6 hours of lectures, the following topics will be covered (and more):

  1. Support and Resistance, Trend lines, Chart Patterns, Fibonacci

  2. Candlestick Charts

  3. Moving Averages, Bollinger Bands, Momentum Studies. 

  4. Elliot Wave Theory

  5. Ichimoku Cloud Charts

Where and when will it take place?

The event takes place on Saturday April 13th, 2019 in London, United Kingdom at the amazing grade two listed building One Moorgate Place.

 

How much does it cost to participate?

Tickets for the event start at £100 and are available here. Ethfinex does not make a profit from the event.

Who can participate in the event?

The event is open to everyone. We especially welcome anyone who is not yet trading on Ethfinex or is new to crypto trading.

Please note that prior trading experience is a plus but not a requirement.

How do I get there? 

The event will take place in central London at the iconic One Moorgate Place grade two listed building, where we have exclusive use of the whole building. Nearby airports include Gatwick, Heathrow and Luton.

The closest tube stops to the venue are Bank (Northern, Central & DLR) and Moorgate (Northern). Please check the TFL tube status on the day to check for station and line closures.

Please note that the Waterloo and City Line (Waterloo to Bank) does not operate on a weekend

What language will the lectures be in?

English

 

What should I bring?

A laptop and whatever else you need to learn. We will provide all necessary course materials, internet access, foods, drinks and course materials.

Will there be separate workspace available?

Yes, we have the exclusive hire of the whole venue for the day. There will be at least one room available for quiet working throughout the day complete with desk space and wifi

What about if I have luggage?

There will be a free cloakroom provided for the duration of the event. Luggage is left at your own risk and must be removed by the end of the event (no overnight storage)
